Kreacher was delighted to help her rescue the books. Turned out he’d heard Sirius threaten to burn them all. The elf could snap his fingers and make a duplicate copy that you could only tell was a fake if you tried to read it and discovered the text to be gibberish, and he agreed to say Mistress Walburga had wanted it that way to keep anyone else from using the books, which was even technically true since he went and asked her portrait. Ginny spent an hour moving books that night, and kept at it most nights afterwards, too.
